Our new team member, Jordanna

We are delighted to introduce our latest member to the Mark Taylor Design team. We asked Jordanna to tell us a little more about herself, her inspiration and why she joined MTD.

Tell us a little about your background and how long you’ve been an interior designer?

Having studied graphic and product design in earlier years, I have always had a keen interest and passion for design.

Why did you join Mark Taylor Design?

I was lucky to work with MTD as a freelance interior designer for several years before being offered a full-time position within the company. Mark asked me to join so that I can continue to build the interiors side within the business, which has now been part of the MTD mix for the last 8 years.  Mark continues to work alongside client Interior Designers and Jordanna manages the ID elements of refurbishment and new build projects

How do you approach a design project?

The key to any successful design project and happy client is to listen and take an accurate brief and then to work with them to find solutions that they might not have considered, but that they fall in love with. I focus on the space, shape and texture in their homes to bring their vision to life. Over the course of a project, you build a very close relationship with your clients who trust you to work with them in their homes; There is nothing more rewarding than seeing a beautiful end result and a delighted client; especially when they come back for more work.

Where do you get your inspiration from?

As with most Interior Designers, I spend a great deal of time liaising with various suppliers of furniture and fabrics, attending design fairs such as Decorex and Focus and make regular visits to Chelsea Design Centre for invaluable inspiration.

Having a keen eye for design, I keep a library of imagery and materials etc. that I’ve come across that aid my creativity and where it’s right, I incorporate into my schemes. Most importantly, though, I listen to my clients and make sure I design to their needs rather than forcing a design on them that is a passing trend.

What are you favourite types of projects?

I particularly enjoy working in people’s homes; you get a feel for how they live and work in the space which in turn allows for me to create a unique and bespoke environment for them to call their home.

What are the major trends that you currently see? And are you seeing any specific trend requests from clients?

Trends are always changing which is what makes the design industry so indulgent and fun. Panelling is very popular at the moment as is the concept of painting all walls, joinery and skirting in one colour creating a seamless unison: classic and timeless.

How do you relax in your spare time?

Yoga, swimming, wedding planning and weekend walks with my fiancé followed by a lovely glass of red wine. And when I get the time I love a good flick through all the new interiors magazines for added inspiration and ideas for all my projects – I’m lucky to love my job enough to be part of my hobby!
