” The bar area for Domus West 1 presented one of the greatest challenges for the project – it sat slightly outside of the concept design yet needed to be a distinct and integral part of the overall project – we didn’t want the look and feel of the joinery to be confused or compared to the merchandising fixtures and decided that a much more refined and tailored solution was needed. We engaged Mark Taylor knowing that he and his team would take a bespoke approach to the challenge. The process commenced with the emergence of the unique pair of wedge shaped bars, front and back, to introduce shape on plan and cleverly orientate the reception desk to face the entrance – this also optimised the space where we needed it.Their designers seized upon the existing ‘Tate’ timber flooring and sourced a complementary rich dark and beautifully textured veneer to clad the two bars – this was further embellished with an inlaid hardwood detail reflecting the geometry of the featured tiled wall behind – a discreet yet stunning detail which really pulls the installation together.

A luxurious Quartzite stone top was selected to complement the richness of the units and a challenging mitred joint detail agreed to help achieve a monolithic feel …..

The installation itself was seamless and straightforward benefitting from the skills of some experienced and talented joiners who pushed on through to complete the job on time. “
